CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)Access HeartPoint for more information on Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Some patients have severe blockages in the arteries, which supply blood to their hearts. If the blockage is severe enough, sometimes the best option is coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG). The purpose of CABG is to improve the blood supply to the heart muscle. This can lead to less symptoms of chest pain and/or shortness of breath. The surgery can increase the lifespan as well as improve quality of life. The surgeon can use veins from the leg or arteries from another part of the body to bypass a blocked or narrowed coronary artery. The number of bypasses done depends on the number and location of the blockages. Back to Patient Education MEDICAL DISCLAIMER
